Let us tell you what it is that made us fall in love with this century-old house that we have brought back to life to turn it into a comfortable and welcoming emblematic hotel where you will feel the heartbeat of La Laguna.<\/p>\n

A stately manor house with a lot of history, whose origins date back to the middle of the 16th century, although the layout and most of the building materials that we can enjoy today belong to the 18th century.<\/p>\n

The Italian geographer Leonardo Torriani included this house in the map of the city that he made between 1588 and 1589. A valuable document that shows how the original urban layout of the historic center of La Laguna has remained intact to this day, one of the reasons why San Crist\u00f3bal de La Laguna has been declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO.<\/p>\n

The beautiful camellia tree that presides over the central courtyard captivated us from the first moment we entered the house, and that is why our hotel is named after it. Its elegant flower symbolizes the passion and care we have put into restoring the splendor of this stately home.<\/p>\n

The house of La Camelia opens to the sky of La Laguna through two Canarian patios that flood it with light.<\/p>\n

The square courtyard, around which the life of this house takes place, brings together the diners of the restaurant El patio de La Camelia.<\/em><\/p>\n

In the shade of the camellia is the original well of the house, which has been recovered to show the peculiar stonework that is kept inside.<\/p>\n

At the back of the house is the best kept secret of our hotel, the backyard or old vegetable garden. A courtyard reserved for our guests where they can enjoy leisurely breakfasts, reading and relaxing moments.<\/p>\n

Sir Alfred Diston<\/h3>\n

Camellia House holds many stories. One of our favorite is the manuscript Costumes of the Canary Islands<\/em>, by Sir Alfred Diston.<\/p>\n

The illustrated work by this English traveler, who settled in Puerto de la Cruz in the early 1700s, reflected the customs and habits of the inhabitants of the Canary Islands and served to publicize the culture and traditions of our archipelago in the United Kingdom in the 18th century.<\/p>\n

Its detailed illustrations have served as a reference for many artisans to recreate the typical costumes of the period. Today they decorate our rooms in homage to this valuable legacy inherited by the last owners of this house, descendants of Sir Alfred Diston, and which was last seen within these walls.<\/p>\n
